November 10, 2008- Compulsory Service
Now that barack Obama has been elected
President, he has vowed to "hit the ground running" when he takes
office in January, meaning that he is not about to shy away from the
daunting task that awaits him once he takes over. He says that he is
goimng to have a plan for America almost as soon as the last strains of
music die out at the various Inaugural Balls in January 20th. He says
that it is important, that thi sneed sto be tackled right away, and
that is not something that many could argue with. America is indeed as
fucked up as all hell, and needs to be fixed, and Obama sold himself to
America as the man that could get that fixing done, and done right. So
the fact that he has a plan is a good tghing, however, some of the
parts of that plan of his are questionable stuff. One of th emain parts
of that plan is something that Obama likes to call "compulsory
service." This is a sort of extension of what President Kennedy came up
with back in his day, what with the Peace Corps and all, organizations
that young people could enter into to be of service to their contry.
Kennedy was the dude that said that you needed to ask what you can do
for your country instead of what your country can do for you, and
Barack Obama seems to have taken that to heart and wants to make it a
part of his Administration as well. He has been saying that he wants
some kind of mandatory government service for young people,
similar to what they have in places like Sweden and Germany and shit,
where young people have to do some kind of job for the government,
usually a non-paying one, basiclaly being intedrns for Washington and
doing low-level gofer types things for them. However, Obama seedm sto
have a little someting more than that in mind, that he wants these
young people to go and do some kind of meaningful non-paying internship
for the government as sort of a payback for what the government does
for them. He says that it will show them how government works and keep
them from being dropouts that eschew the government at all times, and
help make them into more productive citizens ready to go out and face
the challenges that American youth is going to face in this new
century. What this service should consist of and who is part of it is
stil unclear, but it seems to be young people, like college
(university) age ones, kids that have not yet started a career of their
own, Obama wants them to do this government service before they get out
there and start uo for themselves. The biggest qurestiojn has been
whether or not this service is going to be mandatory, like it is in
other countries, or if it is going to be voluntary in some way. At
first, Obama said that he wanted it to be compulsory, bit a lot of
people shit brickers over that, so he has backed off of that stance a
bit and said that maybe it could be a deal where parents get tax
credits if their kids participate in the program and shit, instead of
them having to do it. Either way, it is certain that Obama is going to
institute these government service programs for the young fairly
quickly after he takes office, it is just what form that they are going
to take that is in question, but there are still 10 plus weeks left for
him and his people to hammer out a solution, so it is not a pressing
thing, except if you are a young American, because that dude is talking
about you and your life, so you are paying as close attention to that
issue as I paid to Jimmy Carter starting up draft registration back in
1979. Just like back then, there are a lot of questions that need to be
answered about all of this, like why is it necessary all of a sudden?
Obama says that it is because young people need to build
character, and this is the way for them to do that. What he is playing
on is the state that the American youth is in today, and that is not a
good one. More of them than ever are being raised by single parents, if
by anyone at all, and mor eof them are rudderless than ever beofre.
About all that they listen to these days is Mr. Businessman, who takes
advantage of their rudderlessness by selling them this, that, and thr
other thing left and right, so, other than mindless consumers, they do
not have much more going for them. Obama sees this and says that he
wants to step in and help, and he feels that making these kids do this
government service shit, it will give them more of a sense of
purpose and direction and inspire them to be like him and so forth.
That is what he says, but if it that can happen is something else
altogether. Just making ids sign up for servic eis not going to make
them like it at all, especially if it not their idea of what they
wanted to do. Not every kid in America is in love with Obama like the
media is, and they are not all that thrilled by the prospect of having
to do any kind of service at all. it is a long time between
kindergarten and college, and many of these kids have had more than
enough of having a job that does not pay them anything, which is what
school essentially is, and they do not want to have to spend yet more
time at some other non-paying endeavour, they want to get started on
the careers that they have been traingibng for all these years, they
want to get out and start making some money of their own, not living
off of the parents all the time, especially now with the shitty economy
that they are entering into, and they may not be so keen on serving
Obama like he wants them to. If you just railraod these kinds into that
shit, you'll have an awful lot of sullen kids that have no desire
to be where they are, and do not care one fucking bit about any of it,
they are doing it solely as an obligation. Ho wany o fthat can possibly
be of service to anyone, either the kids of the country, remains
unclear, so that is why Obama is re-thinking how he wants to do this
whole thing. Even if the kids want to do this shit, how this all builds
them up for adult life is also unclear. The fact is that what they are
going to be doing for service has zero to do with what they want to do
for a career, so the experience they gain could not be that helpful.
besides that, this is all government, shit, so the kids will learn
mostly red tape and the like, just all these layers of bureauracy that
make everything infinetly more complicated and less effective,
because that is how the fucking government does everything. The yare
notoriously bad teachers at everything, because their ways are so
fucked up, and teaching kids that just sends them into the regular
world thinking and acting like that, and that is not going to do anyone
any good at all. Surely, Obama knows that the way to reach the youth of
today is not through government shit of any kind, after all, he has two
youngsters of his own at home, so he knows how they think, so he has to
realize that this is a bad idea, that no one is going to be inspired
much or helped mkuch by these service programs, all they'll do is
create more bureaucracy in government, so why is he so gung-ho on this
idea, making it an integral part of his Administration? Perhaps he
wants something else out of these kids, something more than unpaid
intern gofers and paper pushers, maybe he has another thing in mind for
them and just does not want to tell them exactly what that is because
they won't like it much.
Many feel that the reason that Obama wants this service
thing is because it is a very easy way to reinstitute the draft. he has
already said that he is going to expand the war front in Afghanistan
and blast intp Pakistan, so there is zero chance of America not being
in wartime during an Obama Administration. All that Obama wants to do
is run the war differently than Bush has, he has to, because it is all
in another phase now, and Washington has to adjust. One of the big
problems that the Bush Admimnistration has had in the war is the issue
of troop deployments. They are deployed to the front for a considerably
longer period of time than normal, and they are not given much time off
befoere they are thrown right back in there again. That has led to some
pretty bad scenes, and has cost America more lives, and they are
losing enough of them as it is in the war. However, when soldiers are
just thrown into the fray again and again with very little time off,
their effectiveness goes way, way down, and that is not what you want
when you are waging a war. However, with the all volunteer military,
the numbers that The Pentagon gets to work with stay pretty much
stagnant, it is not like new recruits are signing up at the rates of
thousands ( or even hundreds) a day. So they have these same people to
work with over and over again, and that is part of the reason why they
keep re-deploying them over and over again. The have tried to fill the
gaps by hiring mercenaries, but those fuckers are only loyal to money,
not to Washington, and have gotten America into some bad scenes, so
they have only worked out somewhat. Many feel that what Obama wants to
do is to get the draft going, and make military service part of the
government service shit, and have a mixture of volunteers and
conscripts in the military. This would give you a much bigger pool of
people from which to choose when you are rotating troops, and
theoretically make the troops more effective. Obama could indeed
accomplish this if he instituted this servic eclause into every young
American's life, and since he wants to expand the war, it must be a
very tempting idea, because he is going to need a lot of troops to
expand this bitch into Pakistan like he says he wants to, and just
shifting burned out troops over there from Iraq is not going to do, he
will need a fresh squad to accomplish what he wants to do, so a draft
makes an awful lot of sense to him when he looks at all of this. He
could start slow, not drafting kids into the military right away, but
slowly integrate the draft into his ideas of government service,
therefore avoiding the riots and other such problems that have
accompanied past drafts, because he could make it look like some nice,
sweet thing, just working for Washington. It is true that being a
soldier is working for Washington, Obama just will play down that
connection when he implements this. The entire Obama agenda is to
implment things with that smiling face that everyone loves, and that
would be a perfect way to do this in the case of the draft. You could
just slowly phase it in, so one day America would wake up and they'd
have a draft, just like they had in the Vietnam era and the Civil War
and it would be too late to do anything about it. The young people
would have to go into the military just like they did in those two
other wars, and that would be their compulsory service to the
government, and Obama has re-instituted something peacably that no
other President ever was able to do without having problems on his
hands.
Now that may be a fine way to get a pool of people for the
war effort, but it is a piss-poor way to have a fighting force work,
especially when you have two wars to wage at once. If you think that
these kids would not like having to do some kind of intern work for the
government, think of how much they would not like the idea of being on
the frontlines of the war. That was what sunk Vietnam, the fact that
the troops did not want to be there doing that by and large, and they
were not interested in doing the jobs that they were sent there to do.
So America had no chance against the very motivated Viet Cong, and that
was why they got beaten there. The insurgents or whatever the fuck you
want to call the people that America is fighting now are every bit as
dedicated to their cause as the Viet Cong were, maybe even more, and
the last thing that Obama needs is a military force that does not wish
to do what he told them to do. America will lose again, and Obama will
be humiliated in front of the world. The smarter thing for Obama to do
here is to use the forces that he has now more wisely than Bush did,
there are enough troops and mercenaries already, it is just a matter of
using them properly. Obama will have veteran Pentagon warmongers at his
beck and call, so they'll let him know this, and that is why a draft is
probably not in the cards for his service program of his , he has
another idea in mind. He wnats to make these kids indebted to
Washington in some way, so that he can use them for whatever purposes
he needs them for without them putting uop a fuss. The real thing that
he would need them for is his domestic agenda, especially the one that
deals with spying on the people. However, the most productive usage of
them would be as propaganda tools, spreading the words of Obama here
and there and everywhere, helping control the people's minds. If the
young generation falls behind this man lock-step like none ever has
with a President before, it makes Obama a more formidable looking man,
and he needs to get a bad-ass reputation because his lack of experience
makes it look like he may be able to be taken advantage of easily by
America's enemies. If it apears that he has the unwavering support of
the youth of America, that wil make foes think twice, because that is
the age group that fights wars, and if Obama already has them in this
volunteer army of sorts all across America, it makes it look like
they'd lay down their lives for him and any enemies better watch the
fuck out. The fact that these kids probably would not want to lay down
anything for him, let alone their lives, would not be known to these
potential foes, all they'd see is the propaganda image that Obama wants
them to see. He just wants to make it look like he has a larger and
better fighting force at his disposal than even George W. Bush had,
because that image alone could deter potential opponent from going too
far with things. If he had to, Obama would indeed have that pool of
people from which to conscript a military, so if that image had to come
true, he would be able to do that in a heartbeat. So he has use for the
young people of America, but not helping them along in life like he
says, his use for them is purely self serving, he wants these kids on a
string for him so that he can use them for whatever he may need them
for, and he knows that his Messianic inage in America gives him a very
good chance to have just that pool of young people at his disposal, and
he is going to find some way to tap into that, it is just a question of
how he is going to do it, and that is what this compulsory
service thing is really all about.
