November 10, 2002- Deadlines

On Friday, President Bush got his way. Not necessarily with Mrs. Bush, that is a matter for others to ponder, but with the United Nations. They finally passed resolutions concerning Iraq that Bush is very pleased with. What they did was to set a timetable for Iraq to comply with theirs and America's wishes and do the disarming thing like Bush says to do. There are four deadlines for Iraq to meet here. The first one comes up rather quickly, on November 15, to be exact. By that date, the government of Iraq must confirm Iraq's intention to comply with the resolution. They probably will not, and that brings us to the second deadline. That one is December 8. By that day, Iraq is supposed to provide a "currently accurate, full and complete declaration" of any weapons of mass destruction program. It seems doubtful that they'll do that either, and that brings us to deadline number three. That one is December 23, and by that date weapons inspections must resume, to be completed by February 21, 2003, at which time the weapons inspectors are to report back to the United Nations security Council. If these deadlines are ignored, then there is nothing stopping Bush from sending American troops into Iraq, the United Nations said that they will not stand in the way of any of that if the deadlines are not met. Bush is pissing his fuckin' pants with joy over this. It gives him the green light to do what he has wanted to do for so long, and that is to make war with Iraq. This also fits his timetable very nicely. Now that the weather has started to cool in the desert lands, Bush is starting to have the troops dig in. There are aircraft carriers already stationed in the Persian Gulf with more on the way. Planeload after planeload of American ground forces are making their way to Iraq, getting ready to set up the tent cities that are necessary to fight a war overseas. America needs time to set up the troop headquarters and commissaries and get the planes and tanks and guns and bullets, and, most importantly, the troops over there to fight. The timetable given in this UN resolution gives them that time. The first deadline will be nothing more than an excuse for Bush to say "See, he is not complying" and then send more troops and equipment over Iraq way to dig in. The second deadline is more of the same. Bush can use that as a chance to rattle some sabres and talk tough and use the non-compliance to illustrate to the American people why the troops need to go there and shit. The third deadline is the big one. After that date, Bush can send in the troops to his heart's desire, and the UN won't say shit. However, he won't send them in on that date, no way possible. By that time, America should be about 75-90% dug in for war. Any Good General (including the one on this site) knows that you don't start a war until you are 100% dug in and ready. Besides that, there is the issue of that date. December 23 is just two days before Western Christian Christmas. President Bush is not about to start a war at Christmastime, for the same reasons his Daddy didn't. A president looks hypocritical enough standing by the White House tree with all sorts of planted children there for show and saying all this shit about Peace on earth and goodwill for men a sit is. After all, these are the Presidents here, men that are responsible for many of the horrors unleashed throughout the world. They are the titular head of the government that does shit like overthrow other governments, start wars elsewhere, backs thugs and despots for politically expedient reasons, and so on. The thought of a President bringing Peace on Earth and goodwill towards men is laughable. They represent politics, and politics are about anything but peace and goodwill. So every President looks so fuckin' hypocritical as they stand by the tree proclaiming this shit. But starting a war right at that time of year would make that fact too fuckin' obvious to everyone. No President wants to be seen as a buzzkiller that wrecks everyone's Christmas by staring a war. That would make Scrooge look like a wonderful man. So Bush does not want to be sen like that. Daddy probably pulled him aside and told him all of this. After all, his Daddy lit that White House tree on Christmas 1990, and proclaimed Peace and Goodwill and all that shit, and them started war three weeks later. So Junior wants to follow that path. If he waits about three weeks or so after that last deadline of December 23 to start a war, he not only gives his troops a chance to get dug in 100% of the way, but he has also waited until all of the holidays are over, be they Ramadan or Hanukkah or Western Christian Christmas or New Year's or Eastern Orthodox Christian Christmas on January 6. Whatever they are, they are all over by mid January. Everyone is all partied out from the festivities, everyone that puts religious significance behind these holidays have done their religious thing, all are ready to go back to business as usual. That's how it was on January 18, 1991, when President Bush The Elder started his war with Iraq. The resolution that the UN passed Friday gives his son the means to run a carbon copy of this in January 2003. It is like some kind of fucked up rerun here. If you were around in 1990/1991, you saw this exact scenario unfold in almost exactly the same way.Saddam Hussein used those deadlines back in the 90's too. He used them to dig his troops in and to position his military shit and to gather up everything for himself and his cronies that he felt that he needed and start his propaganda blitz to his people telling them his side of things ( the only side they got to hear). He told the populace of Iraq to stock up on this and that, for things would be hard when war came, and the Iraqi people knew that because they had already had a very bloody and costly war with Iran, so they has seen this before. Saddam rallied his troops even as he defied all the deadlines that the UN set back in 1990. He got them all psyched up and ready to fight by telling them all that bullshit about dying for Allah if they died fighting America. He finished off what in many cases was a lifelong program of brainwashing in these dudes and sent them out to fight the USA and its allies. Meanwhile, he was making sure that he was dug in deeper than a fire ant colony over Baghdad way so that he could successfully hide behind his people and fix things so that if you wanted to kill him, that you would have to destroy pretty much all of Baghdad and its inhabitants in order to do it. He squirreled himself away in his bunker and commanded the troops. He was ready and loaded for bear by what was the morning of January 19, 1991 in Baghdad. He did that by using the deadlines that were set for him as ruses and excuses, by pretending that he was going to abide by them and then reneging at the last minute. He will do the same thing now. He will use the deadlines set by the UN on Friday as ruses and excuses by double and tripletalking to one and all while he scurries around behind the scenes and does exactly what he was doing at this time of year in 1990. He will ultimately ignore all of the set deadlines, same as last time. And President Bush will be in the same position that his Daddy was 12 years ago..

Because when al of the deadlines were ultimately ignored and flaunted back in 1991, there was the aforementioned war that started on January 18, 1991. Twelve years later, we are at the brink of another war in the same place against the same dude. Virtually every step of the path that has gotten us here is a mirror image of back 12 years ago. However, there are a few differences. One big one is that America is not heading up a huge international coalition to go at Saddam. This time, the coalition promises to be much smaller, but still a very formidable one. However, the biggest difference is that now America is already embroiled in a war, the War On Terrorism for those of you that may have forgotten. That is something that Bush Senior did not have to contend with. He could focus all his attentions on the one war. Junior does not have this luxury. That is also something that Saddam is using here. The main reason that he is standing up to America again is because he knows that they cannot come at him anywhere near as powerfully as they did before, and he withstood that, so he feels that he can withstand anything that Bush The Second can unleash on him now. So Saddam has far more contempt for the deadlines that wee set Friday than he ever did for the deadlines of 1990. Back then, the dude had to know that he had no chance of actually winning that war, and he did not even come close to that. He also had to know that he had a very good chance of at least being deposed, if not killed in all of this. The main reason the dude stood up to the deadlines back then was because he is a fuckin' megalomanic extraoridnare and he honestly did not give a fuck if he was killed in all of that, because despots like him know that dying is the only way that they will ever leave power once they have it, and Saddam saw a way to go out in a blaze of glory that even John Bon Jovi could not imagine. So he was most likely ready to die back in 1991. Much to his surprise, he did not die, he was not even hurt, not a scratch on his sorry ass. Not only did he live, but he stayed in power, as the Americans did not go after him in his bunker in Baghdad. A coup d' etat was foiled, and Saddam stayed on, much to Bush Senior's dismay. Saddam outlasted Daddy Bush, as he was not re-elected in 1992, and I am sure to this day, that Bush senior blames Saddam for losing that election to Bill Clinton. Clinton was equally as ineffective as Bush at making Saddam obey any deadlines of any type. Clinton was president for eight years, something that George H.W. Bush could not do, and he had equally as little luck with Saddam. He occasionally bombed and strafed Iraqi shit, but to no real avail. Even when Saddam planned out and almost executed an assassination of George H.W. Bush when he came to the Middle East after he retired to get some accolades from the Kuwaiti people, nothing happened to him. All that Clinton did was to have US planes bomb some Iraqi military shit, places that Saddam was nowhere near. There was no US Posse coming after Saddam's ass to get him for trying to assassinate the former President like he did, nothing of the sort, no further attempts at de stabilizing his government, no assassination attempts on him, just some bombings that wrecked some military shit and killed some of his soldiers. No big deal to that dude. So his already monumental ego grew even larger after that. Saddam also outlasted Clinton, and was there waiting for President Bush Junior to come aboard and try something, and try something George W. has. He has brought it to the deadline state, as his father did before him. If Bush or anyone else thinks that Saddam is going to listen to one bit of these deadlines, they are smoking something that I'd like to get a hold of, because it is obviously some good shit. Saddam is so fuckin' full of himself by now that deadlines are mere jests to him, excuses for him to stall and delay and get ready to wage war again. The deadlines are nothing more to him than blueprints telling him when to get ready for crunch time, and when that crunch time will come. If this cat was ready to die a glorious death in 1991, I am sure that he is more than ready now. He is an old fucker now, he has to wear glasses and color his grey hair and is stooped over and shit. He has ensured himself a place in immortality, especially in the Muslim world, by already standing up to the West once and surviving and continuing to thrive. So if he dies now, he will always be remembered as a hero and a warrior of Islam by many. So his place is sealed, so I would imagine that he gives even less of a shit if he dies now than he did 12 years ago. He would rather die in a battle than die some incontinent old man hooked up to machinery in an old folk's home anyway. He is 65 now, and I am sure that he never expected to get even close to that age, so he feels that he is on bonus time as it is. He has done all that he possibly can, he has ruled his land like a tyrant with an iron fist for decades now, a very good record amongst the tyrant crowd. Saddam Hussein has to take a back seat to no tyrant, for he has done as "well" as any of them ever have. Deadlines mean nothing to him, as he has defied them all before. So he is ready to die, and President Bush knows this. He is ready and all too willing to give Saddam his glorious death. If he fails, then Saddam becomes even more of a superhero figure amongst the Muslims, and that is also fine with Saddam. So he is in a no lose situation as he sees it. You add these two factors of Bush and Saddam together, and you will get yourself a war that will start on or about Wednesday, January 15, 2003. The deadlines of the UN shall all be forgotten, and the real deadlines shall come into effect. Will Saddam be able to defy those deadlines too? Stay tuned and we shall all find that out real soon.
