October 30, 2003- Enter Theocracy

The other day, the Pentagon got a report on things in Iraq that was culled by the leading advisers to the American administrator. This report dealt with the likely way that the political situation in Iraq is going to go, specifically what kind of government is most likely to emerge once everything settles down. Now as we all recall, the reason that the Pentagon said that they were invading Iraq in the first place was so that they could ensure that a peaceful, pro-Western administration would take power and everyone in Iraq would live happily ever after. This government that Bush and his pals envisioned was a secular one, with Western styles of doing things, and no definitive role for the islamic Holy men in it at all. One thing that America has been adamant on here is that this new iraqi government would be set up according to Western standards, that is, separation of church and state, with religion having no real power in the government. America has been especially concerned with this issue in Iraq because they know that the dominant religion there is Islam, and there is no such thing as an Islamic state anywhere in the world that is pro-West, especially not pro-America. So America has wanted to install a secular government in Iraq all along and keep the Islamic Holy Men the fuck out of everything. So imagine the shock around the White House when they were told that the actual chances of this happening were remote at best, and that the most likely outcome is for Iraq to become an Islamic Theocratic state, with Islamic Law being written into the constitution, and hostility and downright unfriendliness towards Israel and America being the dominant attitude. As you can imagine, the American administration is alarmed as all hell about this. They see it as their worst nightmare, a total worst-case, scenario. The dude that complied this report, one Dr. Feldman, has told the Pentagon that this is not as horrible as they think, that if they try and work with Islamic democrats, then things will not be the disaster that they imagined. However, saying this got Dr. Feldman called "soft on Islam" by the Pentagon, Making it clear that Washington will not accept any sort of Islamic government in Iraq at all. Even when Dr. Feldman says that underground Islamist political parties would wreak far more havoc than legitimate ones would, the Pentagon still says this. They refuse to let go of their dreams for a new Middle East, one that America had control over and threatened no one. This report shoots that dream dead. These results can be of surprise to no one except the Pentagon, for it is well known that American-Iraqi relations are like nowhere right now. America is trying to do all that it can do in order to stop Iraq from sliding right into chaos and disaster, and that leaves it no time for diplomatic relations. So the Iraqi people are naturally rather tired of the Americans and their ways, for all they have seen from these ways are things like death and anarchy and ruination of their land. They may not have liked Saddam and his minions that much, but for most of them, life under Saddam was orderly and peaceful and there was not constant death in the streets around them. However, they knew that Saddam was a tyrant and that they were not free, so they welcomed the Americans, for they promised freedom from repression and all this good stuff. What they have gotten from the Americans is a land that has descended into lawlessness and violence and shit, and they know that they are not free now either. They know that they are now ruled by a carpetbagger government from an invader society that cares nothing about them the people, only about making money from Iraq any way they can. But they also know when they are subjugated, they experienced that under Saddam, so they see the free democratic elections that America promised as the way to get what they want. The only problem with that is that what the Iraqis want is not what America wants. The Iraqi people see that America has not a clue as to what to do about them, that they are totally culturally insensitive towards them, that there is no plan for anything except making money. These same people also see the Islamic Holy Men as the only ones that are not only educated enough, but also culturally aware enough to govern Iraq properly. So they want to elect them as the new government, and let things fall where they may. This, of course, is nowhere near good enough for America, because they want a puppet government running Iraq, and nothing else, and there is no way that the Islamic Holy Men would be American puppets. But alas, it seems that America is just going to have no choice in the matter, for that is what the Iraqis want. The Pentagon is going to go all out to try and change this, rest assured. They will try to bribe, cajole, grant favors to anyone that they feel will be able to help head this off, and that will surely lead to all sorts of liars and posers coming out of the woodwork and saying that they can exert such influence, when they can do no such thing. However, the Pentagon will throw loads and loads of money at these fuckers until they find out that they are liars. This process is liable to be repeated many times over as America gets more frightened and desperate about the spectre of an Islamic state rising in Iraq. So lots of American time, money, and energy will go into the fruitless pursuit of trying to head off the inevitable instead of trying to work with it. That will only speed up the process, not slow it in any way. For while America is falling al over itself trying to cut political deals with everyone and anyone in order to try and stop this, the country will be sliding further and further into chaos, and that will just turn the Iraq people off to America more and more, and drive them to the Islamic Holy Men, as they would see no other alternative. No matter what America tries to do, it looks like there is no way that they can install that secular government in iraq that they wanted to, that an Islamic state in the only way that things will go there. That is what America wanted the least, but it looks as if they are going to get it.

Now all of this could have ben avoided if there had been any kind of cohesive plan for governing Iraq once America took over. However, that would have meant that the invasion of the country would have had to been delayed and America would not be there yet and Bush was not going to have any of that shit. He was determined to invade Iraq just as soon as he could and no one was going to stop him. He just did not give a fuck about governing the Iraqi people properly, all that he cared about were two things: making sure that his cronies in the business world made as much money from Iraqi oil as they possibly could as quickly as they possibly could, and making himself look like the conquering hero, the great Crusader in the eyes of the world and the history books. Other than that, nothing else crossed his mind when he was all hard up to invade Iraq. Apparently, the dude thought that the Iraqi people would be nothing more than compliant sheep, ready to meekly obey his every command and say nothing. This is from a man that is the chief governing head of America, he never even gave a thought about governing the country once he took over. He sent the Iraqi people a message that they were meaningless to him, that all he cared about was getting the oil monies. The crassness of this attitude should be apparent to all, but I guess it is not to Bush. There could be only one reason for that. This reason would be that Bush does not give a fuck about the iraqi people because unless they are totally subservient too America, he has plans for them. Those plans would be that the American military is going to enforce exactly what America wants, no matter what that may be. Yes, the iraqi people can have free elections, but unless they "freely" elect the secular government that America wishes for them, they will be living in a military state, as America will send in the troops to enforce their will. If any Islamic state was elected in Iraq, there would be no way that they would be allowed to take office. America would use its military to make sure of that one. They would send military Pigs out to arrest and detain and quarantine the Islamic Holy Men that they did not like, and they would send the military forces out in the streets to keep any Islamic government from being able to take power. Any of the elected dudes would be summarily arrested, no questions asked. If they resisted, they would be killed right then and there. No matter how many of the Iraqi people has voted for them, they would be treated as interlopers and not recognized as anything except a threat to America and treated as such. No matter how big a show of Police and/or Military force that it took to accomplish this, it would happen. The message to the Iraqi would be that they were free to elect whoever they wanted, but that America reserved the right to allow them to actually serve or not. The rationale for this would be security, that America had to fight such a tough and gruelling war and had gone through such a difficult rebuilding phase that had cost so many American lives that they had to do this in order to ensure their own security. This would be presented to the American people in the way that Bush presents everything to the American people. All wrapped up in the flag and patriotism, and with the attitude of if you disagree with this, then you are a disloyal American. That will ensure that the American public will not raise hell about all this, but the same will not be able to be said for other countries. What they will think about America, the defender of democracy worldwide, disallowing the results of a free and fair democratic election just because they did not like the results is sure to be bad. Then Bush will just have to take his "fuck them" approach and ignore what they say. All that will lead to is other countries getting away from America and dropping out of any international coalition that would be built by then. This would leave America isolated and alone in Iraq, and the results would be sure disaster, much worse than if they had tried to co-exist with the legally elected government in the first place. So, it would seem to be prudent for America to just go along with whatever government that the Iraqi people elect and work with them. However, Bush and the Pentagon have no place for prudence in their world. They want Iraq to be nothing more than a compliant puppet nation that is a showcase for American propaganda. They want Iraq to be an endless revenue stream for Mr. Businessman so that he can feed his addictions to money and material things. They want Iraq to just go along with whatever America wants for them ,the same way that Saddam had Iraq go along with whatever he wanted for them. Bush is determined that Iraq will be some sort of legacy of his, a legacy of how he changed the world into a better place by reshaping the Middle East. He will do whatever he feels is necessary in order to do that. In doing so, he is creating exactly the kind of state that he wanted the least. His blind obsessions are what are going to bring that Islamic state about, nothing else. If he had any sort of attitude about treating the Iraqis as human beings, not political pawns, he would easily be able to find a way around this all. But he just wants to be a dictator just like Saddam was, and he is showing just about as much tolerance as Saddam. If America does go the military route to keep a democratically elected Islamic government from taking power in Iraq, it will ensure that Iraq is a very dangerous place for a very long time, as that would be exactly what every Islamic zealot would need to stir the populace up into a jihad against America. They would say that what America did was proof that they were against Islam itself and wanted to exterminate it, and that would drive the Islamic pilgrims crazy with hatred against America, and they would act accordingly. This would lead to a Holy War of America vs. Islam that would rage eternally. Generations would suffer from all this, and it would all be because that fucker Bush just wanted to take over Iraq and not care about governing it afterwards. So America should allow the Islamic Holy Men to govern Iraq if that is what the Iraqi people want, for working with them would be easier than just trying to eliminate them and everything could be worked out that way. But Bush is not that interested in working anything out, all he wants is to subjugate everyone in his name. This disasterous policy will lead to nothing except ruin and sorrow for America as they have to have their young men die trying to enforce this hopeless policy that Bush wants. He will make the Islamic Holy Men look like the good guys, and for someone that is against them, that is about the dumbest thing that he could do, but that is the Bush way, ego and profit before all, even common sense, and America will have to pay the price for that for many generations.
