October 3, 2003- The New Agreement

Six months ago, when American troops were charging the length of Iraq in George W. Bush's crusade to "liberate" the country from the evil clutches of Saddam and his cohorts, The Pentagon insisted that this was not going to be the really long term thing that everyone feared that it would be. They said that the whole thing really would not be that long at all, because America was not trying to take over and conquer Iraq no matter what it looked like to some, but, rather, America was just trying to oust Saddam so that the Iraqi people would be able to govern themselves at last, the sooner the better. No matter how much the naysayers said nay and disagreed with the Pentagon, it was insisted that America was not in Iraq as conquerors, but rather as liberators. Once Saddam was deposed once and for all, then America was going to implement this grand plan to help the iraqis govern themselves and do it soon as well. Initial reports said that an Iraqi-elected government could be in place in iraq before 2003 was over. Well, as we all know, things in Iraq have not exactly gone as the Americans planned them to, that is, if America ever really did have a plan as to what to do with Iraq once the war was over. So the original plan, if you can call it that, has been re-written many, many times over by now. America has been realizing just what they have gotten themselves into in Iraq and they have revised their plans for the country significantly. Just the other day, they came up with their latest plan for Iraq and its future. This plan does not call for the iraqis to be electing their own government anytime soon, in fact, it never does say when exactly that is supposed to happen at all. What America is endorsing now is a step-by-step transfer of authority to an Interim iraqi administration, but sets no timetable for the total handoff of sovereign power to the Iraqi people, and leaves America in charge in Iraq until elections are held at some date in the future sometime. This has not pleased either the United Nations or some of its member states. If America does not hand power over to the Iraqis rather quickly, then it becomes very hard for the UN to come into Iraq and do any kind of productive work. That is because doing this would make it easier for other countries to contribute troops to the cause because they would not have to do everything through the Americans, getting their OK on everything and all. As a result, many other countries are none to happy about this, especially since President Bush went to the UN last week and asked these other countries to contribute financially to the cause, because it was too much for America to bear on its own, and because America was now willing to share the spoils of war with these other countries as well. Now, they are saying that they are going to keep total control of the situation until some nebulous future date. The United Nations has been pushing for things to go like they were originally supposed to, that is, have an Iraqi led government in place by year's end, and now they have been stymied. They want this so badly because they know how difficult it is to deal with an American occupation government, that this would only slow things down and if they had an Iraqi government, the UN could deal directly with that government and get things done much more expediently. But this new plan calls for other countries to contribute financially to this whole effort anyway. America does say that they still want to turn the occupying force from a solely American one to an international one. However, the USA would remain the leader of that force and report to the UN every six months. It just never says when America plans on turning over power to the international force. Of course, the Pentagon and White House have all sorts of reasons as to why things have to be this way now. Security issues are the biggest reasons. The fact that many more Americans have been killed and are continuing to be killed in Iraq now that the war is over than were killed during the war itself is the main point here. Because America had no clear plan (or any other kind of plan, for that matter) as to what they intended to do with postwar Iraq, they are immersed in a cauldron of chaos there. So that means that America is not about to give up sole power in Iraq to any governing council, and they don't care if that means that it will take longer to write an Iraqi constitution, the situation there is just too dangerous to do that. The UN and other nations will just have to be satisfied with kicking in more money into the whole affair, but they are not going to get full control of anything just yet. America does not totally close the door to a handover of power, in fact, the new resolution does say that the days when Iraqis govern themselves must come quickly and that America must continue its practice of transferring as quickly as practicable effective and substantial executive responsibility, so it does not seem as if the USA is shutting everyone else out forever here. The Pentagon looks at it as the UN and the world has to give America time, more time than was originally thought, to get things settled in Iraq. In these six months, America has never once deviated from the story that they are in Iraq as liberators of the Iraqi people so that they can find out the glories of self government and all that. Even when Iraq was totally conquered, President Bush never said that America was there to take over, he said that America was there to assist the Iraqi people. The story has been that America felt that Saddam was a main player in the terrorism scene, and they went into Iraq and kicked his ass out to put a stop to that and liberate the Iraqi people. According to this latest plan, America still thinks that way and will turn Iraq over to the Iraqis, just not as quickly as they originally planned. Imperialist style ruling of the country is not their goal, so they say. However, always remember that words can be very deceiving and intentions disguised beneath them.

Remember that because the shit that America has said about their intentions for Iraq are just a bunch of lies and distortions. America does not now and never had any intention at all of turning the governing of Iraq over to the Iraqi people anytime soon, or anytime at all for that matter. For the only intentions that America ever had for Iraq were to remove Saddam from power because President Bush had a personal grudge against him, and to take over the country from him so that Mr. American Businessman could reap the massive oil profits that Iraq has to offer. No matter what The Pentagon and The White House say to the contrary, those were the only reasons for going to war six months ago. The way that Bush ignored the wishes of the UN and other countries back them proved that. Now he wants them to pay into this money-sucking war, but he still does not want to give them any real power. America wants to rule Iraq with an iron fist just like Saddam did. They do not want the Iraqi people governing themselves for a variety of reasons, the biggest one being that if the Iraqis governed themselves, they might decide to kick America and American interests out of their country. If that happened, there would be nothing that America could do about it, for it would look really bad for America togo and disregard the lawful will of a legally elected Iraqi government, especially since they were the ones that encouraged that government in the first place. So the best way to avoid having that ever happen is to make sure that government never comes to fruition in the first place. Since America is the one that came blasting into Iraq and taking over and shit, they are the ones that can keep any kind of government from taking its place there. No matter how much they say that they want the Iraqis to govern themselves, they lie. America just wants to install a puppet government that will do their bidding, and having Iraqis run that sort of government does not make sense. Only a government made up of American beaurocrats will do that. It's just that it is going to take America some time to find and train their own people to properly do the job. In the meantime, having the military there using martial law tactics will suit America just fine. In reality, the fact that the American troops are being shot at and killed works to America's advantage far more than law and order would. Because if the Americans are under constant fire like they are, then the Pentagon can say that the situation in Iraq is unstable and that there can be no power transfer under those circumstances. Tnis seems to be the White House's way of thinking, otherwise why the fuck would President Bush go on public record and say that the enemies of America can just "bring 'em on"? Any commander that knows anything would know enough to realize that saying that just makes his soldiers targets for the enemy. Bushy knew this when he said that, he wanted to make the American soldiers targets so that he could say that he could not transfer power in Iraq to anybody due to the security situation. Just having the military keeping order is going to invite armed responses, the military tends to do that. As long as the American military is the front line for keeping order in Iraq, they will be shot at and attacked. The Pentagon does not care about this, they want it so that it all fits their propaganda. The fact that this position costs American lives is immaterial to them. Casualties are a part of any military operation, and people are viewed as disposable commodities. As long as there are no immense numbers of American casualties, the situation is fortuitous to America. They get to keep law and order in Iraq through the gun, all the while training some puppet politicians to take over, there eventually. All of this is done with the best interests of Mr. Businessman in mind. America is so hell bent to control things in Iraq so that Mr. Businessman can make lots and lots of money. He already has been making it in Iraq. The oil spigots have been flowing non-stop ever since America took over, and that money has been going straight to Mr. Businessman. No one involved in this wants this to stop, and the only way that it can continue as it has is for America to run things like they have been. If other countries or the UN are allowed to have a major role in things, then the American business interests are sure to suffer. The Iraqi people are the ones caught in the middle of all of this shit. Everyone says that they are the ones that they have most in mind, but in reality,no one gives a fuck about them and they are cast aside in favor of Mr. Businessman. There will never be a democratically elected Iraqi government consisting of Iraqis. That would not suit American interests. Instead, all there will ever be is some kind of American puppet government in Iraq, one that does whatever the White House wants it to, with no interests of the people in mind. America is just trying to consolidate its hold on the oil markets of the world, so that they can take that power and money that oil brings out of the hands of hostile governments, and out it in their own hands. That is American self-sufficiency with oil, something that every President since Richard Nixon has promised Americans that they will do. It seems as if it is easier just to invade oil-producing countries and confiscate their oil for themselves than it is for America to be energy self-sufficient through other means. However, it is not energy self-sufficiency that is the real issue here. Rather, it is trying to fight The War On Terrorism by taking over any country that America feels is involved in that shit. Even if Saddam was not involved in terror, he was a sympathizer of it, and he also was a perfect example for Bush and America to prove to the world that America will just take over any hostile country that it can for any flimsy reason. It seems that Bush and Co. Have decided that the way to win their Terror War is just to take over the entire world and that way no one will oppose them. Liberation is just a cruel joke that is being played on the Iraqi people. All that America wants is to conquer the world and get all the money that the world has to offer for themselves. This War On Terror is just an excuse to do just that. This new agreement that has been crafted is going to have no more truth to it than the old one did. America made a naked power grab in Iraq six months ago and has no intentions of giving that power up anytime. This new agreement is a sham that is designed to cover up the real intentions of the Pentagon and White House, and it won't, but it may not have to, because there could very well be nothing that anyone can do about it anyway. America has what it wants, the oil and the monies that it generates, and that is all they care about, the Iraqi people are just pawns in this sick game.
