Things have certainly gotten out of control over in Iraq, there Is no doubting that. Washington now is saying that their goal of country-wide elections in January 2005 is fast becoming a pipe dream. Rumsfeld said that Washington thinks that it would be better if they did not have elections in some of the more lawless parts of the country, as they feel that it is preferable to only have elections in the parts that are under control than have elections that would be disrupted in other places. The problem is that these lawless parts of the country are growing, while the parts under American control are shrinking every day. There are even parts of Baghdad now that America has very little sway in, and that goes for virtually all cities in the country as well, so there are basically no parts of the country that are under American control, just pockets and portions here and there, meaning that it is going to be very hard to try and hold elections at all with things as fragmented as that, and since things are not forecast to get any better anytime soon, America is now looking at partial elections next January. That is a major blow to Washington's hopes in Iraq, as they were counting on these elections as something that they wanted to build around to rebuild Iraq. What this shows is that America is not fighting a bunch of ragtag dead-ender insurgents after all, but a professional military that can and has been able to score major victories in this war. America's taking them so lightly for so long has now come back to haunt them big-time. It is becoming increasingly apparent that these elections are going to have to be postponed because it would be pointless to have them when they could not even be held in all of one city anywhere in the country. That is exactly what the opposition has been trying to do, as they do not want any elections in Iraq, not because they are afraid of democracy at work like Washington says, but rather because they want to stick it to America, and they know that elections were an integral part of their plan. So, postponing and/or disrupting them is a bigger victory than it would be to get the American elections in November postponed/disrupted. That is just the start for the Iraqi opposition. They have bigger and better plans as well. They are doing whatever they can do to try and discredit the current puppet iraqi government in the eyes of the Iraqi people, and they are doing a damn good job of it too. They have convinced many Iraqis that America just wants a puppet government and that they are not concerned with the welfare of the ordinary Iraqis like they claim to be. The opposition is also becoming far more successful these days in sending American soldiers home in body bags, strengthening the opposition to the war back at home even more. These dudes have come a very long way since Bush proclaimed the war over back last year, a very long way indeed, such a long way that Washington themselves now admit that things are going poorly in Iraq.
Not only that, but there are an increasing number of people both in the Pentagon and out of it that are saying that Iraq is a lost cause for America. They are pointing to these same things and saying that this all portends doom for America's interests. Many of these pundits are saying that this is going to become another Vietnam, only worse this time. They point to the increasing casualty figures for both American soldiers and Iraqi civilians and say that these figures are going to do nothing except rise in the next few years, as well as the enmity that this will certainly cause. It seems to have become a kind of bizarre pissing contest, with America trying more and more to just blast the living shit out of the Iraqis, and that is fueling more and more hatred towards America, and that means that the opposition forces will not be depleted anytime soon, and the war is going to go on and on and on with countless more dead to come. Plus the cost of the war is going to continue to skyrocket, going into untold billions of dollars. Many people now feel that even if America stays the course in Iraq and keeps this madness up, that nothing is going to ever be accomplished by it, they are saying that if this shit is still going five years from now, that America will be no closer to achieving their goals than they are right now. To many learned eyes, this is starting to look like a colossal stalemate that has no way out of it. These statements by Washington admitting that things are not going so well over there are not helping things any either. They lend credence to the very things that Washington pooh-poohed for so long, that America was rushing into a situation in Iraq that they would not be able to get out of and would certainly regret later on. Bush bristled at anyone that dared to say that, calling them unamerican traitors and so forth, but now they are starting to look like prophets about the whole thing. It increasingly looks as if America has gotten way in over their heads here and does not know quite what to do now. That bodes very well for the opposition, because they feel that an Iraq with no clear government or society at all is preferable to one run by America, and they are seeing that their opposition is keeping that coherent American Iraq from ever happening. They are perfectly happy with a stalemate, because they never really expected to be able to defeat America in this war, so bogging them down forever is about as good as they can do. They don't care if it goes on forever, as they are not the ones spending billions of dollars on it, and they are used to losing a lot of young lives, while America is not. They know that the increased casualties are going to freak the American people out big time and make them less supportive of the war, while the casualties that they suffer will have the opposite effect on their people, it will encourage more of them to fight in the war and help them keep America at a stalemate. When Washington says that the opposition does not care if Iraq is in chaos, they are right, because that chaos is helpful to them and their cause. Now that they are starting to really succeed in creating that chaos a lot, they have America on their heels. If things are indeed so bad that Washington admits that the situation is deteriorating badly, that means that America is indeed involved in Vietnam two so to speak, a war that it increasingly seems that they cannot win, or that they cannot really lose either. While that might be good news for those that are profiteering off of the war, even that has its limits, and those limits are staring to be reached here. If things continue to deteriorate for America, and there is every indication that they will, that is something that will have very far reaching effects around the world.
In fact, some of these are starting to be felt now. America is starting to become increasingly frustrated by the whole thing, and that is translating to increased violence on their part. Washington is ordering all these carpet bombing raids and surgical strikes against various Iraqi targets and caring less and less just who they target here. Since they are well aware that more and more of the Iraqi people are sympathetic to the opposition, they are making these civilians targets with greater frequency. What America seems to be trying to do is to drown the opposition in a sea of blood by killing as many of them as they can and hoping that the rest get the message. The more that things go badly for America, the more that this will happen. If it becomes apparent that America is just not going to get what they wanted out of Iraq, they will just get petulant about it and try to fuckin' kill everyone. They will not care if they are women children or whatever, they will kill them all and ask questions later on. What America will do if they see that they cannot have iraq the way that they wanted it is to try and destroy the whole thing so that nobody can ever have it. Things like mass killings and a scorched earth policy will be followed, and America will show itself to be every bit as horrible as the worst tyrant around when things do not go their way. Add to that the fact that people at home in America will suffer as well, as they will be asked to pony up an ever increasing amount of money for Washington to continue this madness, at the expense of their own society. They will also feel the frustration and wrath of their government as it calls more and more of their sons and daughters into the quagmire in Iraq and makes them pay for it with their lives. Washington will grow ever more belligerent with the press because they will be asking tough questions as to why things are going so badly, forcing them to come up with ever more outrageous lies to try and cover things up and put a good face on it all. That will have a very negative effect on American society, dragging it ever further down, as if it is not going that way fast enough already on its own. Along with having fighting over in Iraq, you will have more fighting here in America, as the nation grows more polarized over the whole thing and starts to turn on each other, like they did in Vietnam, when many Americans were at virtual war with other Americans over the issue. That will translate into politicians losing their jobs come election time, which will make them into some pretty desperate people. That means that they will have purges and witch hunts to find scapegoats among their own ranks, Ensuring that infighting among themselves will destroy any effectiveness that they might have, further straining the nation. That will translate into a worldwide temper tantrum thrown by Washington which will be felt in their relations with every other country on earth. America will increasingly become high
handed jagoffs to the rest of the world, treating them like shit more and more because they are embarrassed about their Iraqi failures. Washington will feel that in order to continue to look strong to the rest of the world, that they have to act like the biggest assholes on the planet at all times. Relations with allies will become strained as America increasingly alienates them over petty shit, leaving the USA increasingly alone and isolated in the world. That sort of isolation has never done anyone any good before, and it will be the same way for America. Other countries will see that they do not have to meekly obey America at all times, that they are human after all, and one thing that Washington hates is to appear human at all, they want to appear superhuman at all times. There is just nothing positive that can possibly come out of this deteriorating situation in Iraq no matter how you look at it. This was an inevitability, something that Washington never admitted until now, when it is far too late to do anything about it except try to save your own ass, and that is pretty much all that anyone can reasonably expect America to start doing in Iraq as things get worse and worse in these coming months. This is starting to become the mega-disaster that many feared that it would, and in the end, it may even be worse than what they thought it would be. The situation is not only deteriorating in Iraq, but everywhere in the world due to this reckless behavior, which was certain to catch up with America sooner or later, and now may very well be the start of that.
