September 20, 2008- Blowing It

All the polls seem to indicate that the Presidential race has become a neck-and-neck affair between Mc Cain and Obama, a real change from earlier this year. Baack a few months ago, Obama had what many were certain was an insurmountable lead and that it was just a foregone conclusion that he would be elected the next President. People were acting like Mc Cain and the Republicans should not even bother putting up a candidate to face the mighty Obama, because they had no chance, so they might as well forget about it. People all across America were talking like America was going to have its first "black" President come next January, many were already popping champagne corks even though nothing had even really been voted on yet, much less won. Hollywood was all atwitter with the possibilites, going on and on about how Obama was sure to change everything for the better just like Jesus Christ did, and the Obama supporters were all certain that victory in November was but a mere formality, a coronation instead of an election. This attitude went all the way up to the very top echelons of the Obama camp, they even webnt as far as to design an Obama logo that looked an awful lot like the Presidential Seal, even more so that that Aerosmith t-shirt logo did back in the day, but unlike Aerosmith, Obama was not spoofing the name of the Presidential airplane and fitting it to the band's name (Aero Force One, as they called it), but rather trying to get everyone used to the fact that he was sure to be the next President so they needed to start associating him with that kind of logo now. However, that one did not get by people like Obama thought that it would, and there was outrage over the dude's arrogance at even coming up with a campaign logo that looked so much like the Presidential seal, so the campaign shut that fucker down after like one day and babbled some kind of bullshit excuse as to why. However, that did not stop them from thinking that they had the White House in the bag, after all, every poll that every news organization in America took showed Obama in the lead by a wide margin, and the dude was raking in money like no one ever had before, and he was raking it in from all sorts of regular people from all across America, not just from special interest groups and big businesses. So he had money to throw around on the campaign trail like no one ever has, and when you combined tghat wit the fact that his followers truly believed that the man was a Messiah sent to save them all, it looked like a sure win come November. No Presidential candidate had ever consistently polled so far out in front for so long and not gone on to win the Presidency, and Obama looked like he was not about to buck that trend. Everything that the guy touched turned into gold, he could say or do no wrong, and was being groomed as the perfect Presidential candidate that every American dreams about. Then when the Republicans nominated John Mc Cain to be their standard bearer, Obama looked even more like a sure bet, why there was no way that some fucked up old man could ever hope to beat him, the dude had no chance whatsoever, so they might as well start sending the Obama's furniture to the White House right away to ease the transition when they move in early next year. Everyone and theirt brother (or even sister) was sure that Barack Obama would be the next President, so sure that many were just readying themselves for that fact whether they liked it or not, there seemed to be no stopping the Obama juggernaut.

But then some funny things started happening, mainly the Republican Convention a couple of weeks ago. Instead of being a sad, listless affair put on by people that knew that they were sure to lose come November, the Republicans put on the best face that they could, considering the circumstances, and by that I mean Hurricane Gustav, which set things back a day or so in their convention. But when they got up and running they took off like motherfuckers and put on a show worthy of challenging the Obama coronation that they held in Denver the previous week. Suddenly, John Mc Cain was not looking so much like some kind of old POW dude that was all fucked up from war wounds, but as a serious candidate, that could challenge Obama despite what everyone  thought. Then, he pulled the rabbit out of his hat in his Vice-Presidential candidate when he picked Sarah Palin to run with him, sticking it to the Obama camp big time, the people that ignored Hillary Clinton as a running mate even though she had more votes than Obama in the primaries. That choiced lit a fire under the Mc Cain campaign and the American people, and suddenly, it was a race again, not a foregone conclusion in favor of Obama. Now, with less than 50 days or so left in the endles campaign, the race is too close to call, Obama and Mc Cain are running neck-and-neck in seemingly every poll taken now, even the one that asked which candidate would you rather watch a football game with. It is no longer a huge lead for Barack Obama, John Mc Cain closed that gap totally with one move and is now trying to capitalize on that and actually win this thing in November like no one thought that he could. Obama has had to change his strategy totally, going from coasting to being in the fight of his life here. It looks very much like this Presidential campaign that has gone on for so fucking long now is truly going to end in an exciting and memorable finish, not in a cakewalk like the ones Reagan had in 1984 or that Nixon had in 1972. The people that were so boldly predicting a clean sweep by Obama, going 50 for 50 are nowhere to be found now, because they know that this pipe dream that they had is not going to happen at all, that Mc Cain has come back all the way and then some and that Obama is not going to be able to waltz into the Oval Office uncontested. A  campaign that was more geared towards a coronation than an election has now had to shift gears and do it in a fucking hurry, and these last few weeks of the interminable campaign promise to be exciting enough so that it may all have been worth it because the finish is going to be one that everyone remembers, not one that no one does, like in 1984 and 1972. Obama has found out that it is not so easy to be elected President of the USA like he was told that it was and he has to adjust to that fact on the fly at this late date. He was not ready for this, not when he was so far out in front just a short time ago, that frontrunning campaign was the one that Barack Obama was trained to run, not one where he is running so closely with his opponent, Obama does not know how to deal with that very well, as he has been too busy frontrunning all these years to bother learning how. However, that leads to the question of just how did we get to this point to begin with, how did Obama blow a seeingly insurmountable lead and get himself in a horse race like he is now, where a victory, let alone a clean sweep and coronation, is not a sure thing at all, not like it seemed a few short months ago.

A lot of the answer to that lies in the attitudes that many o fthe Obama supporters have, especially the Hollywood glitterati and such. These peolle have been downright nasty in the way that they talk about Mc Cain and theyt always say that they are doing it on Obama's behalf. Take Madonna for example, she is out on tour trying to prove to everyone that she is not some old lady and she has taken it upon herselfto throw the Presidential campaign into her stage show. At one point during some fucking shitty song or another, ther are images projected on the screens behind Madonna, one starts with an image of Mc Cain and them it morphes into images of the likes of Hitler, Stalin and the like. Then, after everyone in the audience boos obediently, there is an image of Obama followed by images of Gandhi, John Lennon, Martin Luther King, and so forth. Then, everyone cheers like Madonna wants them to and she goes on gyrating to whatever lame-ass tune it is. Barbara Streisand is another example of this, her attacks on Mc Cain are mainly personal in nature and have little to do with politics and her praises of Obama are equally as extensive. Then you have the rappers that are all for Obama and are saying all sorts of shit in their songs about him and what life will be like when he is President, and these songs all seem to have "we are gonna take over now" message in them, again, all of this in Obama's name. The list of these celebrity fuckers goes on and on, they are all blowing it out their asses in favor of Obama, when they have no idea of what they are talking about most of the time. All of this shit is supposedly said in the name of Barack Obama, and for a while, he did not disassociate himself from any of that. He does not scold that P Diddy dude when he goes on about Alaska like he did, swearing every other word and making no point, claiming that there are no fucking black people in Alaska and shit like that and that Obama is going to change all that and Obama himself never says whoa to the dude or distances himself from these types of comments. The American people have started to see through that and are starting to wonder just what Obama stands for if he is not going to distance himsekf from this celebrity bullshit and that has cut into that once insurmountable lead a lot. Mc Cain is trying to paint Obama as some kind of celebrity that wants to be President and all these dumbfuck celebrities that are saying and doing all this nonsense on his behalf are just reinforcing that message. Obama has finally seen that now and is distancing himself from the celebrity scene, he used Hurricane Ike as an excuse to back out of being on Saturday Night Live last week, but the truth is that the dude does not need to be seen in celebrity circles now, making jokes on TV, hanging with Oprah and Streisand and the like. These people are starting to become a serious liability to him now with the shit that they constantly say and do, so if the race is going to be as
close as it looks like it is now, Obama needs to leave the celebrities alone, he has enough of their money already and does not need any more unsolicited endorsements from them to the TMZ cameras and such. Too many drunken celebrities coming out of Mr. Chow's in Beverly Hills and saying something stupid in the name of Obama to the TMZ cameras and paparazzi have taken their toll on the Obama campaign and they have blown a lead partly because of that shit.

The other reason that Obama has blown the lead is Obama himself. The fact that his campaign carried on like a coronation was coming up in November instead of an election came right from the top, from the man Obama himself. That dude is probably one of the biggest egomaniacs that you will ever see, what other kind of person writes not one, but two autobiographies before age 45 and having never accomplished much? So much of this Obama campaign has centered around Obama, and that is just the way he wanted it to be. The dude would not even have considered running this campaign if it was not mainly about him and his chances to get into the history books and such because for such a long time, that was all that we heard out of them. Everything was about how America would have its first "black" President and how that man would be Barack Obama and what miracles he would perform as President. Obama never told David Axelrod or anyone else running his campaign to turn down that egomanical rhetoric, because he ate that shit up like hell and loved every bit of it. His campaign tried to keep the media away from him by and large, so that they could never ask real questons or see the real man Obama, but they just could not pull that shit off in a Presidential campaign, especially one of the length that this one has been. They knew that eventually, the American people would see Obama for the egomaniac that he is and start to question his reasons for running and shit, and that time has come today. Obama does not know how to present himself as anything other than an arrogant egomaniac, because he has been allowed to get away with that for his whole life and thought that he could get the White House that way as well. For a while, it was working very well, but things caught up to Obama and now the American people want to see more substance out of the guy, and he is just not prepared to give it to them. That has worked in Mc Cain's favor big-time, because the people that see the election like they see every election, a choice between the lesser of two evils are now starting to see Mc Cain as less evil than Obama, and these people's votes, even though they are based on that premise, are going to be the votes that sway the election one way or another, simply because there are going to be so  fucking many of them, because that much of the electorate in America thinks that about the electoral system. So Obama has fucked everything up so badly now that he has lost that lesser evil title to  Mc Cain and could lose the White House come November because of it. The question now is whether or not Obama has what it takes to rebound from all of this and recover enough to re-gain that lead that he once had of if he is going to continue to fuck things up further and slip further behind. Since the man has never been trained to deal with anything like this, the chances that he could blow this whole thing are a distinct reality, something that Barack Obama is certainly not prepared to deal with. All he has ever thought about is becoming President, and if he does not do that, the dude will have no idea what to do, and it is questionable as to whether his ego will be able to withstabnd that or not. Whichever way that it goes, Obama does not have much time at all to get it in gear and do something about all this shit, and that is what could ultimately sink him in the end, and make his story not one of the first "black" President, but of a dude that blew a huge lead and could not get the job done come Election Day, and that is the proverbial fate worse than death for Barack Obama, so he wishes to avoid that outcome at all costs, but it may already be too late for that to happen.
