September 19, 2007- Him Again

Back in the 20th century, there were several trials that were dubbed "The Trial Of The Century". The first one was the Scopes trial, or "The Monkey Trial" as the media called it, which was a trial concerning a teacher teaching the theory of evolution in a public school in Tennessee, which was against the  law in that state, as well as in many others, so this was a landmark trial over shit like free speech and what can and cannot be taught in schools and such, and was thus dubbed "The Trial Of The century". It was a media circus, and drew famous people into it, namely former Presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan, who ultimately died from the strain of the whole thing, and Scopes was found not guilty and schools were free to  teach secular doctrines. As we went on through thge century, there was another big trial, this one the Lindbergh trial. This was about the two dudes that kidnapped Charles Lindbergh's baby and held it for ransom before eventually killing it, and when they were busted and tried, it was the new  "Trial Of The Century."  This one was an even bigger media event that the Scopes trial, so much so that it led to the barring of cameras from courtrooms because the news photographers made themselves such a problem during the trial, and the entire country hung on it all because people were appalled that these two fuckers kidnapped and killed some celebrity's baby like that so everyone was watching. Eventually guilty verdicts were handed down  all along, and people were executed for the crimes, and history books called that one "The Trial Of The Century" for a number of decades. However, there was still over half the century to go, and sure enough, a trial came along late in the century that topped them all and then became known as "The trial Of The Century". It all had to do with an ex-American football star named OJ Simpson. OJ had been a popular public figure since his retirement, and  seemingly  had it all, fame, lots of money, a good acting career, gigs as a sports announcer and pitchman for various products, the man seemed to be the American success story, he even had this foxy young wife that he had met when she was still a teenager and she had bore him two kids, everything seemed perfect, but it was far from that. Nicole Simposn eventualy divorced OJ and then got back together with him and then left him again, a cycle that went on for years. By 1994, she was essentialy living her own life, had custody of the two kids, and was on her own, but OJ would not leave her life and he wanted her back. Things reached the end in this sad saga  in June, 1994 when Nicole Brown Simpson went out to dinner at a trendy restaurant and forgot her glasses there, but a dude that worked there named Ronald Goldman knew her and called her and told her that he'd bring the glasses by. As he was at her house giving her the glasses, the two of them were attacked by someone wielding some kind of huge knife or machete or something, no match against the attacker. The two of them were viciously butchered, Nicole Simpson had her hea dalmost completely severed, and Ronald Goldman was hacked to death, and both were left dead in a huge pools of blood until they were found hours later. Suspicion immediately fell upon  OJ Simpson and the Pigs had plenty to ask him about.  They brought him back from Chicago  just (a few short miles from where I sit right now in fact), and after some questioning, they decided that he was the main suspect, and asked him to turn himself in. Instead he ran to his house with many Pigs in tow, and was arfrested there and brought to the jail, where he sat until his trial started, the last 20th century trial to be dubbed "The Trial Of The Century".

The media frenzy surrounding OJ's trial was unmatched by anything in American history, the media attention was intense. The entire thing was televised live every day, throughout all the endless months of it. OJ was on TV, the radio, and the papers every day, and was probably even all over the nascent Internet as well, he was everywhere. His movies were shown endlessly, every interview he ever did was repeated   over and over again, specials about him and the trial were an almost everyday affair, it was huge. The trial was front page news on everyone's mind for months and months, far more than even stories like Watergate were. What it ended up doing was polarizing America along racial lines, white people all said that OJ was guilty and that he should fry, and black people said not so fast, maybe he did not do it, the whole thing ended up being about race. race was what ultimately decided the thing, not the evidence, because the LA Pigs fucked everything up so badly that they could not utiize the mountains of evidence that they had properly, and OJ's lawyers, especialy one Johnny Cochran, siezed on that and used it to the fullest advantage. What he did was to put an LA Pig, Mark Fuhrman, on the stand, and grill him about racial shit completely unrelated to the OJ case. LA was still seething at that time from the 1992 riots that followed the Rodney King Trial, where the LA Pigs were found not guilty  in beating Rodney King, a black dude that they stopped after a chase, and then proceeded to beat his ass very badly, however, the beating was captured on videotape, and thus the trial, but when the LA Pigs were let off, people rioted and many still had not gotten over it by 1995, when OJ's trial was. So Johnny Cochran put this Fuhrman Pig on the stand and got him to admit what everyone knows, that many white, big-city Pigs are racist against blacks. That turned the trial right around, because from then on, the LA Pigs were on trail, accused of being racists  and they never recovered from that. In 1995, the jury took only mere hours to reach a verdict, one that said that OJ was not guilty of anything and could go free, a verdict that many  saw as people's revenge against the LA Pigs over the Rodney King trial. The verdict just made the polarization surrounding OJ worse, with whites believeing that a guilty man went free, and blacks believing that justice was served. OJ said that justice was served (duh) , and that he was going to devote the rest of his days trying to find out who the real killer of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman was because you could see that it was not him. Most of America did not believe him, and the life that OJ went back to after th etrial bore that out. He was seen golfing at posh country clubs with his high powered buddies and partying and hanging out with young chicks again, just like he had been doing before all this went  down. His life had not change done iota it seemed, but America would never be  the same again after that trial. The racial gulf that he opened up never did get to heal any, as the opinions on whether or not justice was served in 1995 are still split the same ways they were then. Mostly though, America wanted OJ Simpson to go the fuck away and leave them alone and go on  with his life. Every so ofter, we heard about him again, like when he lost a civil suit brought on by the families of the murder victims, and when he did live Internet shows and latelly, when he waqnted to come out with  a book he had narrated that said how he would have committed the murders IF he had done them, a move that outraged so many that the book was pulled before it came out.

Last weekend, OJ Simpson got himself back in the news for reasons far more serious than the eventual release of his book, the Goldman and Brown families wanted it to come out so they could get some of that judgement money that  OJ owes them, the dude got himself mixed up in big crime again. Apparently, there was some sports memorabilia dealer that had a lot of OJ shit, autographed footballs and the like, shit that he was selling to collectors just like he sells memorabilia from countless other sports stars. OJ found out  about this dude and apparently got upset when he saw what the cat was selling, because he considered some of that shit property that was stolen from him sometime back. now, no one had ever heard of any kind of break-in over at OJ's house or anything, and no one knew of anyone selling hot OJ memorabilia. But this did not stop OJ, because he was convinced that the shit was stolen from him and was rightly his, so he decided to do something about it. What he came up with was something right out of one his old movie roles, he decided that he was going to set up a "sting" operation like the Pigs do, and set the dude up and get his shit back from him. So he went and  enlsited the help of a few dudes that he knew  from somewhere or another and set this shit up. He arranged for the memorabilia dealer to meet these cats in a room at some hotel on the Las vegas strip. When the dude checked in and later answered the knock on his door, he said that these nasty dudes barged in waving guns, followed by none other than OJ Simpson himself, who was demanding the return of his goods. Since the guy had a gun stuck in his face, he had little choice but to turn the shit over to OJ and his boys and they gladly accepted it and split the scene, but not for long. he dealer went to the Las Vegas Pigs and told them that OJ and his pals did this, and the Piggies wasted little time going after OJ. However, they had snags  along the way asd they tried, particularly the claim of one of the dealer's associates that was there that no one stole anything and no one had any guns, so OJ went on his merry way as usual, playing golf again and  standing up at a friend's wedding this past weekend.  The Vegas Pigs were not idle though, they spent lots and lots of time building a case against OJ, and  a day after the wedding, they announced that they had gone to OJ's hotel and arrested him without incident. There was no slow speed chase this time, just footage of OJ being led into the Clark County Jail in handcuffs, no high drama this time. The Pigs have methodically been adding charges and arresting others in connection with this case since they busted OJ,and they have quite an impressive list of charges against him now. They are talking about armed robbery and kidnapping among others, and in a place like Vegas, where laws have severe penalties to them, OJ could now be facing life in prison if convicted on the serious charges. So it  looks like OJ Simpson has once again thrust himself into the public eye for  problems of a legal variety, and all those memories and characters from back in 1994/95 are coming out of  the woodwork again, even the legendary bum Kato Kaelin, who was a guest at OJ's house the night of the murders is back again trying to milk just a few more dollars out of the infamy he got due to his involvement in the murders, and it is like the 1990's all over again. OJ is smirking at everyone through  his mugshot that is endlessly shown  on TV and the Internet and the debate has heated right up again with the same people taking the same positions as back then.

Everyone is either busy lynching or psychoanalyzing OJ left and right, and the dude is bringing out the same shit that he did back in the day for better or worse. The main topic is whether  or not he'll be held liable for these alleged crimes, or whether he'll go free again like he always has.  OJ seems to think that he'll beat this rap, as he smiles in his mug shots, and he's probably right. Even though Nevada law blows everything out of proportion, these charges brought against him are nowhere near as serious as the ones from 1994, that  was as serious as you get. Add to that the fact that this was a seriously fucked up situation, not a meticulously planned and executed murder, and you have problems for the Pigs there too. There are so many stories flying around as to what went down in that hotel, even down to the facts of whether or not that  memorabilia rightly belonged to OJ or who it belonged to, everything is  a mess here. the timing of it all is very suspoect too, because it happened right when that book that OJ narrated was finally coming out, although retitled and repackaged by the Goldmans and Browns, it hit bookstores hours before this fiasco with OJ went down. That could not be a coincidence, especially when you are talking OJ here.  When the book was first printed, OJ was all for it coming out, because he stood to make some bread off of it. However, when the lawyers fro the Browns and Goldmans got involved and made sure that OJ was not going to get shit for the book, his tune changed and this ridiculous stunt he pulled was part of that. What he probably wanted to do was to take attention away from the book because he felt that  more people would buy it now that the Browns and Goldmans had it instead of him, and he wanted to discredit the  whole thing as a result, so he went and did this crazy bullshit to  take attention away from and reduce the credibilty of the book. He wanted to remind everyone just who wrote that book, someone that they fucking hate, and he wanted to remind them why they hate him so much too.The whole thing will probably be found out to be  an elaborately staged hoax that OJ, the alleged victim, and these other cats pulled off to get OJ some more negative attention. No matter what,OJ  simpson has  a way with people, and even after everythihng that he has been through, he can still charm people into doing  almost anything for him, and he probably did just that will all these fuckers involved in it too.  OJ does not like having to go to jail and be held with no bail, but he did that before in 1994/95, so if that is the  price he has to pay to pull this scheme off, so be it to him. He knows that it's just a matter of time befoire the Pigs uncover this shit too and the whole thing unravels. He'll probably be convicted on some kind of minor count just because the Pigs are so pissed off at him and hate him so, but the major shit probably will not stick due to everyone being in on it all. What will probably happen is that the other players in this drama will end up taking the fall for OJ big time, as he certainly planned this as carefully as he did back in 1994, and wil end up being found guilty of either nothing or very little. That is why he is smiling in his mugshot, he has great faith that he'll walk again, and he is probably right too. Then he'll open the old wounds  wide again and  become the same polarizing figure he was then, and  everyone will hope that he'll go the fuck away again, this time for good. However, he won't, as he never will until the day he finally dies. OJ Simpson has made a living out of this sort of shit for a long time now, and knows no other way, so his fucked up saga  will always continue in one way or another for the rest of his life, so everyone had better just et used to his sorry ass.
