September 1, 2007- Double Lives

   The biggest political scandal going on in Washington these days actually has zero to with President Bush, his Administration, or even war. No, this time Congress takes the cake, specifically Senator Larry Craig of Idaho. This all has to do with a number of complaints to the Minneapolis. Minnesota Pigs about various goings-on in the men's rooms of the Minneapolis Airport. Apparently, these  men's rooms are a favorite for gay men to go what they call "cruising", that is, going around looking for various sexual encounters with other gay men. Men's rooms are and always have been, a favorite place for this activity, after all, they are a natural for it, a place where men congregate with their pants down and penises out and such. You have what are called "glory holes" cut into the partitions separating toilet stalls, where one man sticks his erect dick through the hole, and another man (hopefully) sucks it in the other stall, that is the untimate goal of crusing, to get some gloryhole action. So it seems that the Minneapolis Airport is a favoroite place in the areaa for that sort of shit, and that brought on a number of complaints from men that were propositioned for such activity when all they wanted to do was piss or shit, and men that ended up seeing some of this activity and did not like it at all, so the Minneapolis Pigs decided to do something about it, brave souls that they are. What they  came up with was to send a Pig into a toilet stall and act as a decoy of sort, to attract and entice the men that would be there cruising, and then arrest them. In June, Senatoir Craig has a layover at that airport, and went into the men's room, and that is whwre things get controversial. There was an undercover Minneapolis Pig sitting in a toilet stall not doing anything except sitting and waitin gto arrest someone. The Senator allegedly came into the john and took notice of the Pig sitting there, allegedly by looking at him through the cracks in the doorways, a known signal for cruisers. Then, he went inmto the stall right next to the Pig, and proceeded to pull his pants and underwear down and act like he wanted to take a shit. That's where the Pig says the Senator started making clear signals  about wanting some gloryhole action, he said that he first tapped his feet a few times, which is supposed to be a crusing signal of some sort, and the the Senator bent down and reached his hand towards the opening at the bottom of the partition, which is also supposed to be a signal that you are willing to do that shit, and that was when the Pig pounced, so to speak, handing the Senator  a card stating that he was a Pig and that the Senator was under arrest. The senator vehemently deenied that he was looking for any action at all, especially of the gloryhole kind, but it did him no good, and he had to do something about the charges. What he decided to do was to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of lewd conduct and the like, and hoped that the whole thing would just be swept under the rug and forgotten, and for mist of the summer, it was. However, a newspaper   back in Idaho found out about this shit and reported it, and the circus was on, with the Senator's mugshot plastered all over everywhere, and him coming out with his wife at his side the other day and vehemently denying that he is gay or engages in any shit like that,but it seems to be way too little way to late, as the press is reporting that in just hours, Senator Craig is going to announce his resignation, something that people all across America, inside Congress and out, have been calling for all week. It seems that yet another politician is being felled by scandal, and it also reads like the same old fucking story we always hear when this sort of shit happens.

   Senator Larry Craig is a Republican senator that represents Idaho, a state where there is not much of anything save  for potatoes, and the people are rather conservative and modest. You do not go to Idaho looking for sex adventures much, as the likes of whores and escorts and bathhouses and sex clubs are virtualy non-existent in the state, even in the cities. That's not only because no  one much lives in Idaho, but because those that do are not generally into that kind of stuff, so they have no interest in having that shit around. That means that a politician would be able to get elected bu such a constituency by going out and being conservative, and standing for traditional values, and that is what Senatoir Craig has said that he stands for ever since he first got elected by the voters of Idaho back in 1982. He jumped on the Ronald Reagan  Conservative Republican bandwagon back then and has not hopped off since, and has consistently railed against anything seen as non treditional, especially anything gay. The Senator has always voted against anything at all that had evcen a small gay aspect to it, always opposing shit like gay rights, gay marriage, gay sex, anything gay was seriously out of bounds to him, or so he always said. The problem was, that there were always these rumors dogging him about that very subject, gay sex, and the Senator's involvement in it. There were always these stories coming out about the Senator's conduct in men's rooms, the fiasco in Minneapolis was not the first time that something like that had happened to him. Way back when he was forst elected, there was a scandal about him doing shit, or trying to, in a men's room somewhere, and the whole time that he has been in Washington, these same types of stories keep popping up again and again. The time in Minneapolis in June was just the first and only time that he had ever actualy been arrested for trying shit like that, but it seems to be a pattern of behavior that the senator has been doing for a long time now. Up until now, there was no real proof of any kind that he engaged in shit like that, after all, no one really wants to watch what others do in a men's room, unless you are there for cruising purposes, but him being busted this time and having a Minneapolis Pig going on TV and saying that the Senator is flat-out lying about all of this is what seems to be sinking him this time. All his votes against gay marriage and gay rights and such have all been thrown out the  window, as his entire political career does, as he is set to resign in disgrace hours from now. Yet, the Senator is sure to use today's press conference to do something other than resign, he is going to use it to once again deny that he is gay, and to denounce the gay lifestyle and everything about it, playing the role right down to the bitter end. No matter what may come out of this, Private Citizen Larry Craig of Idaho is always going to deny that he is gay or that he ever was, and always state his opposition to the same things that he always opposed when he was in office, that is, anything gay. He will always claim that he was entrapped in Minneapolis and point out that he was not convicted of anything gay and was convicted instead of that sort of thing in the media and the court of public opinion, and that was why he had to resign. The Senator will go exactly the same anti-gay thundering moralist that he went into Congress as 25 years ago, but the numbers of people that actually believe that is very slim, the dude is going to be lucky if his own wife even believes that anymore.

   The reason that no one in their right mind is going to believe that is because if you know anything about the gay lifestyle, you know that one of the things that is valued highly in there is a man that acts straight and is actually gay, or at least bisexual. A man that says that he is stridently heterosexual and has a wife and a family but sneaks away when he can for furtive gay sex  is a man that would have zero problem scoring in the gay scene.  there are thoudsands of gay men that would love to get with a man  like that, they get off on doing shit with a man that has another life and regards the gay part of his as his secret life and puts up a facade to everyone. The straight acting man gets off on this too, he likes having a double life and thinks that he can pull it off on everyone forever. The perfect front for this sort of thing would be a firebrand conservative Republican Senator from Idaho that vehemently oppposes gays at every turn. The fact that the Senator keeps saying that he is not now, nor ever has been gay is also meaningless, because a big part of this sort of thing is the fact that the man with the double life does not consider himself gay or bisexual at all, he says he is straight up hererosexual, and in many cases, actually believes it too, despite how he acts in his secret life. That is why no one actually is going to believe the Senator when he stands up later today and once again recites the mantra that he is not gay because whether or not he admits it or not he is gay, and he knows that too, and has for many years now. He has always wanted to live the double life, have that secret side  and in June, it came back to bite him in Minneapolis. Now he is seeing just what having a double life can do to you, and it is too late for him to do anything about that, he made his bed and now has to lie in it. he apparently felt that no tonly was being a senator  a good cover for his other life, but that being one was goijng to ensure that he would be able to do whatever he wanted  in that doublle life with impunity, even if it was cruising in an airport men's room for a gloryhole blowjob like a common man does at the Bijou Theater here in Chicago. The reality is that there are probably thoudands of gloryhole BJ's, both tgiving and getting, in the senator's  past, because the two parties involved in that never see one another, no  one woul dreally know if it was actually him that he had one with or not, so in that respect, the Senator lucks out, because there are not going to be allegations on top of allegations of this type of shit following him forever. However, that is probably little comfort for the man, because 25 years of service is thrown away in an instant, and the dude has to wonder how he is going to make a living now, because he is resigning, he forfeits his pension and benefits that he accrued over 25 years  and his life is sessentially ruined forever.Unlike George Michael, Senator Craig is not going to be able to bounce back from this bathroom bust and resume his career, because in the Senator's world, something like this is bad news, in George Michael's world, is is kind of par for the course. Perhaps the two of them can get together now that the senator sems to have been outed, but that is a remote possibility, because once the dust settles, Larry Craig is going to go right back to the men's  rooms of the world and start cruising again, this time with a vengeance, because he now feels that he has nothing left to lose by doing this, and the double life that he led for so long is not such a secret anymore.

   When the Minneapolis Pig was interviewing Senator Craig, at the end of the whole thing, he is heard to mutter something about "this is why we're going doen the tubes" or some such shit. What he meant wa sthat arresting a US Senator for something like this was leading to the demise of the country, but it was not actually the Senator's actions that wee the problem here, vile and sleazy as they may have been.The real problem here is th efact that the Senator was leading that double life, saying all that anti-gay shit when he would cruise every cgance he got. To do this, the Senator had to be essentially living a lie, and that is the last thing you want your elected leader doing. For fi the powerful people in your society are living a lie and being fake as part of that, there is just no way that these attitudes cannot end up seeping into the "real" lives, the ones that  most people know about, and when they do, there's no way that these fuckers can accurately make the decisions that they need to make. Add  to that the pressure that leading a double life entails, exposing yourself to blackmail so easily, and you have a seriously compromised person in a sensitive job, exactly what the Senator was. Everythng that he did has been undone now, and that does not bode well for the Republicans especially this close to election time. If the man had been more upfront about his life, and not tried to lead a double one, he probably would not have bveen the Republican Senator from Idaho for 25 years, he would have had to setrtle  for a less powerful and glamourous job, but what happened in  Minneapolis would not have utterly destroyed him either. If the job that he did hold for so long was not such a rigid place  where appearance is everything, perhaps he could have done a better job for the people because he would not have to have been so chained to acting anti-gay all the time and this would not have ruined him either. However, the politicians in Washington do not want things that way at all, they are perfectly happy with leading double lives, as most of them do that in one way or another.  They all get off on the fact that they do this, it gives them furtive thrills, and that attitude is why America is going down the tubes, not because Senators are looking for gloryhole action in bathrooms. Craig is not leraving because he wanted a cheap BJ in an airport, he is leaving because he was a liar and a hypocrite, saying one thing and obviously doing another. It was the double life way that he went about things that scuttled him, and not entrapment or any other actions like he is going to always say. Nothing good can ever come out of leading a double life, and that is what his story is going to be, just like it has been for every other politician that has been embroiled in scandal, but just like every other time, nothing is going to come out of this and no one will learn shit. They''ll just see Craig as someone that went too far and got himself caught, not another person that was brought down by the double life that they were leading for so long. All the other politicians that are leading double lives, whether that is cruising in men's rooms, or fucking every chick they can get, or getting high, or being into BDSM, whatever it is, they all think that they are too smart and  powerful to get brought down by it, and that what happened to Craig wil never happen to them. However, what they'll forget is that Craig thought that very same thing for a lot of years, and yet it all brought him down in the end. It turned out for him that the double life was far more powerful than even being a US Senator was and that it will be the double life for which Larry Craig will be remembered not any Senatorial shit and sooner rather than later, another big time Washington politician will go and do exactly the same sort of things and end  up exactly the same way.
